Treble observes what changes when the hands come together.

It knows the passage and the goal already. Playing gives it new evidence to interpret.

From a Waltz observation to purposeful practice

In an early Waltz experiment, the learner’s recording eased in volume through the third bar where a reference performance grew stronger. Rather than prescribe the reference’s interpretation, the proposed lesson tested deliberate phrasing and melody control:

  1. Establish the melodyPlay the opening four bars’ melody alone. Compare two phrase shapes and choose the expression you want.
  2. Add the accompaniment graduallyStart with left-hand bass notes, then add the written chords, keeping the melody clear and the pulse steady.
  3. Reconnect and reassessPlay the opening eight bars after a short break. Listen for the chosen shape, a clear melody and continuous flow. Check again next session.

The experiment demonstrated analysis and lesson design; learner improvement was not measured.
